The video is playing up the family aspect of it, but if you jump to 1:25, they show the vehicle in the kid's camouflage. The interesting parts then follow, when you get several unencumbered views of the interior and undercarriage, as well as showing it off road.

Honesty, after watching this, I don't hate it as much. I wish it still had the staggered roof, but that did pose problems for roof racks. The interior looks very nice (I'm a sucker for contrast stitching), without being ostentatious.

It looks like it does pretty well off road too, but its not like LR is going to show it getting stuck in a promo video.

Articulation looks like its actually down from the LR4 (which was AMAZING for full independant). It looks like because it has a naturally lower static ride hieight that the raised height mode isn’t allowing the wheels to move as much vertically as they were previously allowed. Im not impressed. I mean it will still be pretty great off-road because of traction managment, but its not going to be as good as an LR4.

I agree. From what I've read about the new Defender, my guess is that they'll move it to slot between the old defender and LR3/4, which would be perfect. There has to be at least one off road vehicle in their lineup.

The age of the Land Rover Tractor is dead, but here’s hoping the new defender is at LEAST as competant as the outgoing LR4

Agreed. I loved it, but it was unrealistic to expect it to continue. If it could have been sold in the US like the G wagon, sure, but that would have required complete retooling anyways. (I do wonder about the G wagon, since it was originally designed BEFORE the defender. Did they plan ahead?) I have faith that land rover will do something cool with the defender. Not to mention they explicitly said they intend for it to be sold in the US.

My guess is they'll use a frame/unibody combo like the LR4, but after that I have no idea. I saw a leaked presentation a year back or so, showing they intended to have several versions of the defender, including a pickup. If accurate, this would lead me to believe it will have at least one solid axle.
